Bosch eBike Systems takes over start-up company COBI.bike GmbH based in Frankfurt. The two companies aim to focus on promoting the networking of people, services and products from here on. "The expertise, technology and experience that COBI.bike brings to the table are the perfect ingredients for developing mobility solutions of the future", explains Claus Fleischer, Business Manager of Bosch eBike Systems.

Alongside eAir (COBI’s OEM product) and the Software Development Kit, COBI also presents its new product generation and additional product enhancements at Eurobike. A new Bosch, Brose and TranzX version of COBI for e-bikes, an improved battery pack with charging option via the dynamo, and the combined speed and cadence sensor augment COBI’s portfolio and further boost the performance of connected biking.
With the Software Development Kit (SDK), COBI opens its app for developers and enables third parties to integrate numerous new enhancements into the COBI app. In addition to users, companies too are welcome to create bicycle-specific app enhancements for their business applications. COBI, Microsoft and the “Brezel Bike” (“Pretzel Bike”) pilot project collaboratively showed at Eurobike (Stand A2-208) how this can look in the corporate sector.
To coincide with Eurobike, COBI takes the next step in smart biking. The new, slim, COBI eAir makes it quick and easy for e-bike manufacturers to transform their bicycles into smart bikes. This display, motor-control and infotainment system uses the smartphone as a cockpit. The innovative system was specially developed to meet the needs of e-bike manufacturers.
This update gives a new fitness dashboard to the COBI Connected Biking System. The unique modular system, which consists of hardware and the COBI app, lets riders control music, navigate via online and offline maps, and take or make phone calls. And now the system can also graphically depict heart rate, cadence, and number of calories burned.
Right on time to kick off the 2017 cycling season, two additional bike brands have begun delivery of COBI-equipped pedal-assist speed bikes to their dealers. The “Haibike Urban Plus” and the “IZIP E3 Protour” are now available in the USA. This milestone rides the smart-biking wave from Europe where already a number of bike models come with the COBI system pre-installed.
